My Top 3 Bad Weather Toys, PLUS Calming Oils

It' TRAINING TUESDAY!!!!

Since the wind is howling outside and most everyone is hunkered down around here, I thought I would share some tips on keeping the pups entertained and calm. I have used these same tips when it is super hot outside, pouring rain and more. Granted, we don't live where is snows, but for So Cal, we can get below freezing (my back East friends are snickering right now....I know we have it easy) which means we should always have a plan of attack to keep our dogs entertained. Or in other words have stuff to keep them busy so they don't drive us crazy!! LOL

I am going to share a few of my favorite toys. I am going to start with one that most people may not want to actually use in the house.....well I like to break the rules when we are stuck inside, so here it goes.

#1 RETRACTABLE WAND - this is a great interactive toy that can help get the "ya-ya's" out of their system...at least for those that like to chase things. It retracts to 10" for easy storage. This is a new "pet" version of the good old horses lung whip we used to use years ago.

#2 SNUFFLE MATT - this can be made easily if you are handy. If you don't have time to make one, then you can purchase direct. Basically take what would appear as a very "fluffy" bath mat and hid treats in it. You dogs job is to find the treats, the reward is obvious. This can be used with their morning or evening meals. Or up the value and use small yummy treats.

#3 TUG-A-JUG - this is an old favorite of mine, this toy has been around forever. I was lucky enough to be at a trade show where they were testing these out. I still have my original Tug-A-Jugs, they have held up for years. Just add kibble or small treats and let your dog figure out how to get them out. Super fun to watch too!

Now once we have tired out their minds and bodies, we can work on calm.

The best way for this is to choose your favorite calming oil and turn on your diffuser. My choice oils would include Vetiver, Serenity and Balance. Additional options to consider would be Cedarwood, Frankincense and Copaiba. Actually any combo of each sets of these oils just smell amazing!

The key to being trapped inside all day with your rambunctious pooch is to be prepared. Having some of these "tools" on hand will make that next windy/rainy/snowy day go by that much faster.
