My Dog Hates Essential Oils
Today I want to tackle the question I get ALLLL the time.
“Why does my dog hate my essential oils?”
Let’s break it down….
A dog’s nose is 40x stronger than ours.
Most people when they choose to use oils on their dogs, just go for it. Most do not know that they should take the time to break it down, so that our dogs understand the stinky thing is not bad.
It is human nature to remove the cap of a bottle and present it to our dogs. Most dogs, expecting a yummy morsel, will come running right up, expecting their favorite treat. Only to be hit by a wall of scent. This tends to throw them off. Some dogs roll with it and kinda give you a funny look, but most are completely offended.
This does not necessarily mean that they don’t like it, they just don’t understand it since we have not taught them what oils are.
This is why it is important to break it down AND use oils outside of the time of the immediate need.
Most people don’t use oils consistently with their pets, so when the need arises, their dog is completely unprepared for what is being thrown at them.
By introducing your dog to oils ahead of time, you can avoid many of these pitfalls.
This is especially true when it comes to behavior modification, be it a dog with aggression issues, fear issues and the list goes on and on.
One of the best ways to do this is to diffuse your oils.
Not sure what oils to use with your pets, what is safe, what should be avoided? Then I have a great resource for you.
