Outdoor Fun! 🐶🐍🦟💧
If you live in So Cal you may be interested in learning about the Rattlesnake Avoidance Training that I host twice per year.
If not, feel free to scroll on and catch out my EO tip of the day!
Rattlesnake Aversion Training… it sounds just like it is. We teach our dogs to avoid interaction with the sight, sound, and smell of real live rattlesnakes, both adults, and babies.
This training is not for every family as it is correction-based. Those of you who know me, know that I do not take using corrections lightly when it comes to dog training. But the reality is, this can be a serious life or death situation and for me, that warrants giving my dog a crystal-clear fair understanding to stay away from the dangerous creature on the ground.
Now with that said, no training is foolproof and there are situations that dogs with training have been bitten. Sometimes to no fault of theirs, others have stuck their noses right on the snake as the temptation over road what they considered the consequences (it’s often a terrier problem).
If you are curious to learn more, I encourage you to visit my site and read my Q & A section. You can also visit the website of the specialty trainers that I bring in just for this training (you didn’t think I actually would train with real live rattlesnakes, did you?).
ESSENTIAL OIL TIP O’ THE DAY
Ok, with all this talk of outdoor fun, I thought I would highlight a couple of “outdoor” oils.
TerraShield - this one just happens to be the Product of the Month. When you are on the Loyalty Rewards Program (LRP) and place your order BEFORE that 15th of the month (which means you still have time) AND it is over 125 PV you get this 15ml bottle FREE. Woohooo.
This is the ultimate hikers EO, with a combo of Sesame Oil, Citronella, Lemongrass, Thyme, Cedarwood, Geranium, and Peppermint. This combines some heavy-hitting oils to help keep the bugs at bay!
This oil can be used topically and aromatically. I like to set my Roam Diffuser up outside while we eat on the deck to help ward off the bugs that want to join us.
Geranium - this is my go-to oil to keep fly off of me and the dogs when we are out training during the day. I apply it directly to my hands, rub them together, then wipe down my arms, the back of my neck, as well as petting down my dog's spine.
You can watch the fly’s come into land and immediately turn and go the other direction to avoid the scent.
Citronella - this is another one that goes great in the diffuser when sitting outside by the campfire. I have found depending on where you are at in the country, oftentimes different oils work on different bugs. I personally have always had good luck with citronella.
This is another one that can be used topically or aromatically as needed.
Sometimes it is hard to know which oil is the BEST one to use, for me, I have tested it out over time when camping or training out with my dogs. If I had to pick just one to start with, I would choose TerraShield, it has all my favorite bug deterring oils in one!
For those of you who are members of my Essential Oils for Dogs 101, additional info and uses for Citronella and Geranium are part of the curriculum, make sure to log in to check it out!
So, there you go, happy hiking or training or camping. In whatever fun outdoor activity you do, stay natural my friends don’t resort to chemical sprays to keep the bugs away!
Until next week ~ Bree
